Yes, I guess in the States, they use brackets only for the square ones. And the one that I used now is “parentheses” there?

That is really annoying, because where I live, they just mix every type of English. If some teacher teaches you “defense, ” and you write “defense” in the exam, you’re wrong because whoever checked that thinks “defence” is right. They do think “defense” is right but you didn’t use British English. Oh, and the classic, “inquiry” and “enquiry.”

In my defense, I don’t know how to inquire with anyone.

The teacher: You didn’t use “defense” with a “c” again, and you used “inquire” with an “i”? You’re a horrible human being for not using British English. And you should die. You can’t go to hell because even Satan is scared of the heinous crime that you just did. You should cease to exist, and free the world from your horrible English.
